A little bit about counselling....and human experience:
We human beings are amazing, complex and fallible.
This experience we call 'Life' is also amazing, complex and fallible.
No surprise then that the experience of our lives can, therefore, be extremely challenging.
ALL human beings experience this, in their own unique way.
Unfortunately, we are very often out of touch with this, especially when we are in pain.
Maybe you get caught up in all that 'life is throwing at you' day-to-day, yet believe that you should be able to "handle it" ('like "normal" people do'), thus proving that deep down you are indeed worthless?
Perhaps an empty, joyless life just seems to be passing you by?
Potentially life has been so difficult/painful/scary that it is a struggle to merely get through the day?
Or possibly you feel cut off from others, that you are the only one feeling this way and therefore you are the one that is fundamentally broken inside?
-This VERY brief and simplistic reference to the human experience, begs the question of: "If life and we are so complex and open to turmoil, how on earth can any of us change things for the better?" One possible answer is to engage in (you guessed it), counselling.
-Counselling is a ‘Talking Therapy’ that offers a space in which you can explore and unpick elements of the complexity that are important to you. The experience could help you find a long lost meaning within, or give you an overdue opportunity to say the things you cannot to loved ones.
What counselling DOES NOT offer:
~As a counsellor, I won't tell you what to do- as helpful as they may or may not be, that's what friends and family are for!
~There is no feasible way that I could have all of the answers to all of your questions. For I am not the expert on being you. The expert on being you, is YOU.
However, what counselling DOES offer is:
a professional relationship
that is ethically boundaried
and underpinned by the fundamental tenets of offering confidential, non-judgemental and empathic holding,
thus creating an intended sense of safety in which you can talk about what you need to.
-As a counsellor, I endeavour to utilise my training and experience, alongside my human curiosity, to travel with you on your unique path of self-exploration and healing.
-Where we go in sessions, is up to you.
“The brain is so complicated that it staggers it own imagination.” -Sir John Eccles
